Libigel Health Impact

Viagra for women?

One of the most sought after treatments is nearing its FDA approval. LibiGel has gone through Phase I and Phase II clinical trials and now in its Phase III trial where they are testing it on 3,000 women before they can submit an NDA to the FDA for final approval and release into the market. The drug if successful will be the first of its kind to be up for sale in the United States after Proctor and Gamble's solution didn't meet satisfaction during their FDA clinical trials. That solution is now available in Europe. Basically a gel comprised of testosterone to be applied on the skin of post menopausal women in order to treat FSD (female sexual dysfunction) and (or) HSDD (hypo sexual arousal disorder) the hormone treatment is long awaited by women and doctors as well.

Do I have a disorder if I'm not having enough sexual activity?

You may be. According to some pretty solid sources in the medical industry between a 30-40% of women suffer from one or more of the symptoms carried under FSD including, lack of sexual desire, decreased female libido, vaginal dryness, and others. Around 80% of medical doctors also agree that there is a need for this type of drug treatment to offer their patients so they can stop prescribing off label testosterone creams and patches like they do today.

What are LibiGel Side Effects?

Since LibiGel side effects have not been released to the public health officials can only speculate at this point in time. That is a very tough thing to do and still maintain your integrity though. Since what is known about LibiGel is that it is a testosterone based therapy some already assume that LibiGel side effects will be similar to those of typical testosterone therapies available today. Those side effects include but are not limited to:

  • Masculinisation
  • Scalp hair loss
  • Fluid retention
  • Excess body hair and acne
  • Deepening of the vocal tones
  • Clitoris enlargement
  • Adverse effects of blood cholesterol levels

These sound pretty harsh but keep in mind they are not side effects related to LibiGel at this point in time just testosterone treatment similar to LibiGel. As any medical advisors would recommend therapy should be done in moderation and when taken in moderation the effects and adverse effect are very rare. In fact BioSante has gone extra steps and a long way to verify LibiGel side effects. In their Phase II clinical trials and Phase III clinical studies there have been extensive risk factor testing and to date there have been no reported advert effects. This is great news for BioSante as the FDA approval process is very critical to their success in the United Sates and health factors are the number one topic observed and tested. In fact the company has gone further in that it will take a portion of the 3000 women tested in the Phase III study and continue studies surrounding vascular effects for the next 12 months. If all goes well they should be able to submit an NDA to the FDA for approval and after that we will be able to update this site with more relevant information on the side effects of this new drug.

Is there a safer option?

Well right now there really are no other options as far as FDA approved therapies for female sexual dysfunction go. However, there are a large amount of companies in the natural health care segment delivering various products aimed at aiding the symptoms of HSDD. Most of these are topical creams applied directly to the genital area or tablets ingested to improve circulation to the genital region in order to promote more sensation and vaginal lubrication. These are not a solution like LibiGel is presenting though and rather female aphrodisiac products consisting of herbs such as Macca and Horney Goat Weed which are thought to have positive impact on female libido.

So that's it for now
