A serious threat to your sensual life
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder or HSDD is the female sexual disorder most responsible for women taking concern and hopefully action about their sexual being. Essentially it is a persistent lack of desire to engage in sensual, romantic, erotic, or sexual activity. Lack of sexual fantasy is also a symptom of this disorder. So basically, you just don't have the ability to get into the mood nor have any interest to seek stimulation or engage in sexual activity. In order to be legitimately diagnosed as a disorder there must be serious distress or interpersonal problems that are not consequences of other mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, or drug interactions.
First popularized in terms of awareness by Masters and Johnson in their book Human Sexual Inadequacy which described various female sexual dysfunctions including HSDD during the 1970s this disorder actually has a well documented history. Sometimes labeled as hypoactive sexual desire, inhibited sexual desire, or decreased sexual desire syndrome, hypo sexual desire disorder has brought on itself quite a bit of criticism. Scientist and doctors have debated as to whether this is a mental or physical disorder and some doubt it to be a disorder at all, rather a side effect of other disorders.
Sexual health is directly linked to other health factors
Typically, women suffering from HSDD are simultaneously dealing with emotional issues or in tough relationship situations with their partner. Conflicts in a relationship are mostly responsible for the lack of desire according to top doctors in women's sexual health. Generally, there are signs of communication issues between the female and her spouse or constant arguments, lack of trust in the relationship, or a missing connection that can greatly impact the levels of intimacy in a relationship. Other attributes can result in similar consequences too though including:
- High levels of anxiety or stress
- Certain drug use including medications (specifically those that effect emotional responses)
- Certain hormone therapies
- Poor physical health
- Traumatic experiences both physical and emotional (especially sexual in nature)
- Onset of menopause
Treatments and therapies for HSDD
While many women can achieve results simply through sex therapy and improving their relationship with their partner there are some who suffer far greater symptoms or have hormonal imbalances that make it difficult for them to focus on sexual activity. Not to mention that this disorder either results in or combines with other FSD symptoms to make life difficult for women. If communication and therapy do not help some women turn to other treatments such as hormone therapy like LibiGel
or all natural female libido enhancers. If you are experiencing symptoms of this disorder or other decreases in libido you should generally discuss with your partner first and then see a therapist, physician, or look to alternative treatments in order to overcome the symptoms.
